Description

Urban transformations over the past twenty years are closely linked to extreme events such as floods and wildfires, but they are rarely analyzed within a single framework that is useful to policymakers. As part of the RETURN project (PNRR Mission 4), URBAN SHIELD addresses this by integrating satellite imagery, geospatial data, and urban planning regulations into a single planning support tool.

Objectives

  • Develop a smart, scalable tool to monitor urban transformations using satellite imagery and geospatial data
  • Correlate urban changes with extreme events (floods, wildfires)
  • Integrate urban planning documents and local regulations using NLP techniques
  • Support sustainable land-use planning and risk vulnerability assessment
