Description

The digital and green transition of European agriculture is facing a critical bottleneck: a shortage of workers capable of adopting and operating advanced technologies such as robotics, artificial intelligence, and data-driven decision-support systems. Despite rapid technological advances, large-scale adoption remains limited by skills gaps, fragmented training approaches, and low readiness to adopt these technologies across agricultural supply chains. AGRIWORK addresses this by placing training at the center of technological innovation, with adaptive learning pathways and extended reality training environments.

Objectives

  • Develop an integrated framework that combines workforce skills mapping, technology adoption modeling, AI-assisted adaptive training platforms, and extended reality (XR) training environments
  • Enable agricultural workers to interact safely and efficiently with robotic systems and digital tools in real-world operational contexts
  • Validate the framework through pilot Living Labs in representative agricultural sectors, including greenhouse horticulture and Mediterranean perennial crops
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer among research institutions, technology providers, and agricultural stakeholders through international, cross-sectoral, and interdisciplinary staff exchanges
  • Improve productivity and working conditions by accelerating the adoption of digital technologies for a more resilient, competitive, and sustainable European agri-food sector
