Description
Next-generation aeroponic vertical farming promises sustainable, high-yield, and resource-efficient food production—but it requires the integration of additive manufacturing, advanced sensor technology, and artificial intelligence into a single system, an approach that has yet to be fully explored on a real-world scale. AEROMATICS addresses this challenge with 3D-printed, AI-controlled cultivation modules, designed from the outset to be replicable on an industrial scale.
Objectives
- Develop 3D-printed, recyclable aeroponic modules optimized through computational modeling
- Demonstrate that hybrid AI control can reduce water use by up to 40% and nutrient use by up to 30%, while increasing productivity
- Integrate smart sensors for real-time monitoring and validate predictive control systems in experimental greenhouses across different climates
- Quantify environmental and economic performance through life-cycle and cost analyses to support the EU’s Green Deal and Farm-to-Fork objectives
- Support commercialization, regulatory alignment, and standardization through validated prototypes, open sustainability metrics, and a joint committee for the exploitation of results
